Shenzhen Airlines will begin flying between Shenzhen and Sydney on 14 December 2026, adding a second Australian destination to its network and taking the number of airlines serving Sydney Airport to a record 55.

Schedule and Aircraft

The route will operate four times a week with an Airbus A330-300. Flight ZH815 departs Shenzhen at 00:20 and arrives in Sydney at 13:40 the same day, and ZH816 leaves Sydney at 22:30 and lands in Shenzhen at 05:25 the following morning.

The A330 will be configured with 18 business-class flatbed seats in a 2-2-2 layout, 24 premium economy recliners and 267 economy seats, a total of 309. Sydney Airport estimates the route will add roughly 130,000 seats a year and carry about 100,000 passengers annually.

A Second Australian Route

Shenzhen Airlines launched flights to Melbourne in December 2025, also with the A330-300, and Sydney is its second Australian city. Sydney Airport says Shenzhen will become the tenth China-based airline to serve the gateway. Shenzhen was the seventh-largest mainland Chinese destination at the airport for direct passenger traffic in 2025, according to the airport’s data.

The airline is a member of Star Alliance.

Why Mainland Carriers Keep Adding Australia

Shenzhen is often described as China’s Silicon Valley, and a nonstop link serves business travel as well as leisure and visiting-friends-and-relatives demand. Mid-sized widebodies such as the A330-300 suit this kind of route: they carry a sizeable economy cabin with a small business class, and are cheaper to operate than larger aircraft on a market that is still being developed. Four weekly frequencies are also a common way to test a new market before adding flights.

The announcement does not say whether Shenzhen Airlines plans to add frequencies or larger aircraft once the route is established.
