Turkish Airlines has ordered up to 150 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. Boeing announced the deal in New York on Sep 23, 2026, saying it concludes discussions that began in 2025.

The agreement was finalized in the presence of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Türkiye.

The order

Turkish Airlines has purchased 100 Boeing 737-8 airplanes and secured options for 50 more 737 MAX jets. Boeing said this is the airline’s largest Boeing single-aisle order.

The deal also includes substitution rights for the 737-10, the largest model in the 737 MAX family. This means the airline can switch some aircraft to the bigger variant if it needs more seats on busy routes.

Boeing did not give a delivery schedule or a value for the order.

Building on the 787 deal

The 737 MAX order follows Turkish Airlines’ 2025 order for up to 75 Boeing 787 Dreamliners. Boeing described that earlier deal as a record 787 purchase for the airline.

Together, the two agreements cover both ends of the fleet: widebody 787s for long-haul flying and 737 MAX jets for short- and medium-haul routes.

According to Boeing, Turkish Airlines, including its low-cost unit AJet, operates more than 200 Boeing airplanes. These include the 737 MAX, 787 Dreamliner, 777, 737 Next-Generation and 777 Freighter.

The release also says Turkish Airlines has a fleet of 567 passenger and cargo aircraft and flies to 358 destinations in 133 countries, 305 of them international and 53 domestic.

What the two sides said

“This agreement marks another significant step in the continued expansion of our fleet. The new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft will bring greater efficiency and flexibility to our operations, supporting the extensive network we serve from our hub in Istanbul,” said Prof Murat Şeker, Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee of Turkish Airlines.

“This order reflects the trust and shared vision that have defined our long-standing partnership with Turkish Airlines,” said Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

Why the 737-8

Boeing said the extra 737-8s will help the airline serve high-demand domestic and international routes, using the aircraft’s range, payload flexibility and fuel efficiency. Boeing says the 737 MAX family uses 20% less fuel and produces 20% fewer emissions than the airplanes it replaces. That figure is the manufacturer’s own.

Industrial participation

The agreement comes with an industrial participation package. Under it, Boeing says it will continue to support the Turkish aviation sector. Boeing did not give details of the package in the release.

For Boeing, the deal is one of several large orders it announced in September 2026. For Turkish Airlines, it is the second major Boeing fleet commitment in two years, as the carrier expands its Istanbul-based network.
