AJW Group and Airbus Sign Long-Term Avionics and Radome Repair Deal
AJW Group has signed a multi-year aftermarket agreement naming Airbus as its privileged repair partner for aircraft avionics and radome components worldwide.
Independent aftermarket solutions provider AJW Group has signed a comprehensive, long-term commercial agreement with Airbus covering the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of commercial aircraft avionics and radome components. Finalized during the MRO Europe conference in Amsterdam, the partnership designates Airbus as AJW Group's privileged repair partner for these critical systems across its international customer network. The collaboration unites Airbus' original equipment manufacturer (OEM) technical expertise and specialized engineering capabilities with AJW's extensive global supply chain, parts pooling, and component management infrastructure.
The multi-year arrangement is designed to deliver enhanced component reliability, streamlined shop turnaround times, and reduced inventory holding costs for commercial airlines and aircraft operators. Under the terms of the agreement, operators utilizing AJW Group's flight-hour support programmes and component pool agreements will gain direct access to factory-authorized Airbus repair lines and engineering modifications. By pairing OEM repair standards with flexible aftermarket logistics, the two companies aim to mitigate severe component supply chain bottlenecks and minimize aircraft-on-ground (AOG) events across modern commercial fleets.
Integration With AJW Technique MRO Facilities
The partnership directly complements AJW Group's internal component maintenance capabilities housed at AJW Technique, the group's flagship 160,000-square-foot component repair facility located in Montreal, Canada. While AJW Technique provides extensive in-house capabilities across hydraulics, pneumatics, power generation, and interior systems, routing specialized flight management, communications, and weather radar equipment through Airbus facilities broadens the scope of turnkey services offered to airline customers.
AJW Group leadership emphasized that establishing formal repair relationships with prime manufacturers has become essential for independent aftermarket providers facing tight component availability and extended supplier lead times. Scott Symington, Chief Commercial Officer at AJW Group, stated that having trusted, high-volume OEM repair partnerships in place is vital to maintaining operational momentum for airline clients worldwide, noting that the agreement significantly strengthens the technical support AJW delivers to flight lines globally.
OEM Expansion in Aftermarket Support
For Airbus, the agreement represents another step in its long-term strategy to expand its commercial aftermarket footprint and deepen OEM lifecycle integration. By acting as a privileged repair partner for an independent parts distributor and MRO specialist like AJW, Airbus captures a broader share of high-value avionics maintenance while extending its technical oversight deeper into secondary airline fleets.
Yann Peyrot, Head of Commercial at Airbus, noted that the agreement combines Airbus' specialized product knowledge and original manufacturing standards with AJW's global aftermarket agility. Peyrot pointed out that the combined strengths of both organizations will provide dependable, high-quality technical support for sophisticated avionics packages, helping airlines sustain higher schedule reliability during peak operational cycles.
The Engineering View: Precision Radome and Avionics Servicing
From an aeronautical engineering perspective, aircraft radomes and avionics packages represent highly sensitive, safety-critical assemblies that require specialized testing rigs and tight structural tolerances during maintenance shop visits. An aircraft nose radome is not merely a composite aerodynamic fairing; it is an electrically tuned electromagnetic window engineered to protect multi-mode weather radar and synthetic vision antennas without distorting radio frequency transmission or beam geometry.
During service life, radomes are subject to moisture ingress, aerodynamic erosion, bird strikes, and static electrical discharges that degrade electromagnetic transmissivity. Specialized autoclave composite repairs, anti-erosion coatings, and microwave transmissivity range tests are required to ensure radar return fidelity is completely restored. Similarly, modern avionics modules incorporate dense multi-layer circuit boards, microprocessors, and sensor interfaces that demand automated test equipment (ATE) and OEM software updates. Partnering directly with Airbus ensures that repairs utilize genuine manufacturer design data, proprietary testing protocols, and the latest service bulletin revisions, providing operators with traceable, airworthy components.
